GST calculator for India
Add GST to a price, or work out the GST hidden inside a total. See the CGST, SGST and IGST split for the current rates.
How GST is worked out
GST is a percentage of the price before tax. The calculator uses these steps and rounds each amount to the nearest paisa, as an invoice would.
- Adding GST
- GST amount = price before GST × rate ÷ 100. Total = price before GST + GST amount.
- Removing GST
- Price before GST = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). GST amount = total − price before GST.
- Splitting the tax
- For a sale within one state, half the GST is CGST and half is SGST. For a sale to another state, the whole amount is IGST.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate GST on a price?
Multiply the price by the GST rate and add the result to the price. For example, ₹10,000 at 18% adds ₹1,800, so the total is ₹11,800.
How do I remove GST from a GST-inclusive price?
Divide the total by 1 plus the rate as a decimal. For example, ₹11,800 divided by 1.18 gives ₹10,000, so the GST is ₹1,800.
What are the current GST rates in India?
Since 22 September 2025, most goods and services fall under 5% or 18%, with 0% for nil-rated items and 40% for a narrow set of luxury and sin goods. A few items, such as gold, have special rates like 3%. The rate for your product or service depends on its HSN or SAC code, and rates can change, so confirm it on the official GST portal or with a chartered accountant.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?
When you sell within one state, the GST is split equally between the Centre (CGST) and the state (SGST). When you sell to another state, the full amount is charged as IGST.
Can I use this for old invoices with 12% or 28% GST?
Yes. Type the rate in the box for a different rate. The 12% and 28% slabs were retired on 22 September 2025, but older invoices may still show them.
Does this calculator include cess?
No. It covers GST only. If your product also carries a cess or another levy, add that separately.
Does this calculator save my data?
No. Everything runs in your browser, and the numbers you enter are not sent to a server.
